When Old Patterns Return: Understanding the Need for Further RTT Sessions

A hypnosis session works quickly. It goes straight to the core and often creates noticeable change in a short amount of time. At the same time, the issues you come with have usually been built up over many years. Through experiences, conditioning and repetition. This is why it is important to hold both truths at once: the speed of the method and the depth of human development.

After three sessions, we are usually already very far along. Many patterns have been released, emotional reactions have softened or disappeared, and a new sense of inner stability has emerged. And yet, it can happen that weeks, months or even years later, another session becomes helpful. Either the same issue shows up again, or something else steps in and takes on the role of the old pattern.

Change is not linear.
Change is not linear.

This does not mean the method did not work. It does not mean you failed. And it says nothing negative about the therapist. On the contrary. It shows that you have developed further.

When we grow, our lives change. New situations arise, old certainties fall away, and new roles ask more of us. The subconscious does not always respond to change with ease. Sometimes it reaches for familiar strategies simply because they feel safe. Old patterns can offer a sense of stability, even when they no longer serve us.

In these phases, it can happen that we briefly fall back into old roles. Not because we are moving backwards, but because the nervous system is searching for orientation. This is exactly when it is worth looking closely. Another session can help dissolve the pattern again before it has the chance to settle back in.

Some issues also have more than one layer or origin. In earlier sessions, the subconscious may not yet have been ready to release everything. This is not a mistake, but a form of protection. With more inner safety, lived experience and stability, deeper layers often open on their own. What could not emerge before becomes accessible over time.

So when seemingly “resolved” issues resurface, it is not something to feel ashamed of or to doubt the effectiveness of RTT. It is an invitation. An invitation to meet the theme from a new place and resolve it on another level. Not starting over, but continuing deeper.

Healing is not a linear process. It moves in cycles. And each cycle brings more clarity, more freedom and more trust in yourself. Additional sessions are not a setback, but part of a living process of growth.

If you notice old patterns returning or feel unsettled by new challenges, you are allowed to seek support. Not because you cannot do it alone, but because you have learned to care for yourself early.
